NAPMA is pleased to bring to our members this exclusive and outstanding two-part interview with the man known as "The Greatest Fighter in the History of Karate"—the legendary Joe Lewis.
NAPMA President Rob Colasanti and Mr. Lewis talked for many hours about the life of this feared fighter, revered martial arts teacher and professional, actor and father of two.
During part 1, Mr. Lewis certainly relates many stories of his life and martial arts career and his relationships with Bruce Lee and others. These are always interesting to hear and hear again, but what will stay with you is when Mr. Lewis speaks about topics, such as greatness.

"Greatness goes hand in hand with being honest with yourself. You can only be honest with others to the degree that you’re first honest with yourself. I kind of like to use this motto: Man's highest virtue is to live with dignity. I think if you want to know what I want to be remembered as, I want that on my tombstone." This is the intellectual Joe Lewis, who learned the martial arts lessons of serenity and introspection, just as well as he learned the lessons of fighting.
It is unlikely that you have ever heard anyone explain topics, such as confidence, spirituality, developing the proper mindset for success and having "heart," so well. It is truly awe-inspiring to listen to Mr. Lewis' mastery of what it takes to be a true Black Belt, to be a "real" fighter and to achieve personal and professional greatness.
Mr. Lewis pulls no punches when he talks about the over-commercialization of the martial arts and how the industry must strive for and maintain the highest levels of quality martial arts instruction, honesty and integrity.
Part 2, in the July Professional Package, promises to be even more enlightening and one of the "all-time-best" exclusive interviews from NAPMA.
