NAPMA Reports August 2007
9. The Black Belt Marketing Report: How to Use Lead Generation Methods to Grow Your
School, Part 3
|
|
"How to Use Lead Generation Methods to Grow Your School," is this month's Black Belt Marketing Report. It's the third and final part of a three-month "super" report. Many of these lead generators are particularly timely and advantageous because they can be implemented in conjunction with the start of the academic school year—and throughout the school year! Academic school presentation/talk is lead generator #17. Follow-up your "letter to teachers" above with phone calls or second letters, proposing a presentation in the teachers' classes or for the entire school body. Use lead generator #21, publicity/press releases, and this month's press release to generate some publicity for your school, as your community's safety school, and you, as one of your community's safety experts.

The tenth installment of NAPMA's Edge Mixed Martial Arts Program is "Guard Strategies, Part 2." Terry Riggs' retention-building drills include a triangle choke, shoulder lock and various transitions to improve your students' understanding of the guard position. The complete curriculum outline can be found on the Media Master CD-ROM. |
| 11. The G.O.L.D. Leadership Report: "Out of the Dojo and Into the World by Tom Callos |
|
Tom Callos' G.O.L.D Team Leadership Report, "Out of the Dojo and Into the World," focuses on one of the most important outcomes of the martial arts experience for students and maybe the most important test of an instructor's value. "The ultimate measurement of a teacher's skill is when his or her students take what is taught on the mat—and apply it to their lives outside the school," writes Mr. Callos. Mr. Callos provides a number of staff training assignments to define what "out of the dojo and into the world," means specifically at your school. The degree to which you can make this concept work in your school depends on the example you set, putting it into action in your life. You are your students' role model and leader. Show ‘um how it's done!

| 12. Words of the Week: Humility
by Solomon Brenner |
|
Humility, the August Words of the Week, is one of the fundamental character qualities of a Black Belt. NAPMA member and author Solomon Brenner helps you teach your students that humility is necessary if they expect to achieve Black Belt, and be successful, as a human being, in the wider world. The Report's four quotations are right on target, revealing very specific truths about humility and how to be humble. Explain to your students that their actions speak louder than words. If you're confident in your abilities, then you don't need to announce your competence and accomplishments to the world. Help your students understand that being humble does not mean they should have a low opinion of themselves. Tell them that humility leads to greater self-esteem, not less. Make humility a repeating character lesson of your curriculum. |
